Jackson, MS (10/28/2020) —The Salvation Army Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi (ALM) Division is monitoring the storm and preparing for a rapid local response to Hurricane Zeta as needed, with 19 mobile feeding units on standby throughout the division. After strengthening throughout the day, Hurricane Zeta is expected to make landfall along the southeastern Louisiana coast on Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The New Orleans area has had more than its share of hurricane threats in this extra busy hurricane season, but until now has managed to avoid each one. It looks like that is changing now, with Zeta poised to make landfall very near The Crescent City. “The Salvation Army is prepared and stands ready to serve our New Orleans community and surrounding areas as needed in the wake of Hurricane Zeta,” said Major Christopher Thornhill, Area Commander for the New Orleans Salvation Army.

Atlanta, GA (October 28, 2020) – The Salvation Army of Georgia stands prepared and ready to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual care to survivors and relief workers ahead of an anticipated impact from the remnants of Hurricane Zeta.
After a predicted landfall along the Louisiana coast, the likely inland track of the of Hurricane Zeta will progress northeastward affecting northwest Georgia – including the metro-Atlanta area. Currently, a tropical storm warning has been issued for the metro-Atlanta area in anticipation of possible risks due to flooding, severe weather, and possible weak tornadoes.
In times of disaster, The Salvation Army traditionally serves and prepares meals from its mobile canteens, helps distribute cleaning supplies, and offers comfort to those impacted. In preparation of Hurricane Zeta’s possible inland residual effects, a total of 20 mobile kitchens from Salvation Army locations across Georgia – with the total capacity to provide 15,000 meals per day – are being readied for service or mutual aid to other affected areas, should they be needed.
“The Salvation Army has a long history of serving in disasters, from hurricanes, localized tornadoes and flooding to long-term responses like 9/11 and Katrina,” said Lanita Lloyd, Director of Emergency Disaster Services for The Salvation Army of Georgia. “We have always been where the need is, and we will be there for those in need should the case arise from the remnants of Hurricane Zeta.”
