Officer Development Opportunities provided by ORD
ARC Leadership Certificate* – Certificate is offered through Talent Ladder with Indiana Wesleyan University. Four modules are presented between January – August. Modules include Addictions Theory and Practice; Spiritual Regeneration and Recovery Programs; Leadership and Human Resources; and Operations and Finance. Two segments of the modules are presented in person. Although priority is given to ARC Officers and Employees, this certificate is open to non-ARC officers. Principles learned are transferable to any appointment. Participation in the certificate program does not guarantee an ARC appointment.
Caseworker Certificate- Certificate is offered through the Territorial Social Services Department in cooperation with Officer Resource and Development. Eleven modules related to casework leadership and pastoral care in social services will be covered. These modules are taken at self-pace within a required time frame of one hundred-twenty days (120). The certificate is engaged in the Territorial Learning Management System (Litmos). If taken, must be taken as a Divisional conference. Not eligible for Officer Education Assistance funding.
Equip – IHQ initiative in partnership with Booth University College Corporate Learning Academy. Studies are completely on-line and are available for officers, soldiers, employees and volunteers. Courses include the following: Biblical Perspectives of Children and Youth People; Mission in Motion; Learning Pathways (Community Engagement and Personal Reflection; WASH – Water Sanitation and Hygiene; 12 Principles of Salvation Army Finance; Shaping a Logframe; Cultural Intelligence – Appreciating One Another’s Cultures; and Disability from a Salvation Army Perspective. Interested students should go to the IHQ Equip web page – www.salvationarmy.org/ihq/equip.If taken, must be taken as a Divisional conference. Not eligible for Officer Education Assistance funding.
Inclusive Leadership Certificate – This certificate is offered through IHQ with self-paced modules. Areas of focus include delegation, difficult conversations, coaching, managing change, giving feedback and building a team. Interested officers contact [email protected] to register. If taken, must be taken as a Divisional conference. Not eligible for Officer Education Assistance funding.
Kroc Leadership Certificate* – Certificate is offered through Talent Ladder with Indiana Wesleyan University. Four modules are presented between January – August. Modules include Introduction to Leadership; Team Leadership; Operations and Programmatic Leadership; and Strategic Leadership. Priority is given to Kroc Center officers and employees, but non-Kroc officers can also apply. Principles are transferable and participation in the certificate does not guarantee a Kroc Center appointment.
Preaching Seminar (Asbury Seminary) – USA Eastern Territory has a relationship with Asbury which has grand-fathered them in for a Preaching Seminar which takes place in February. The Eastern Territory will allow the Central to have slots when they are available.
Preaching Seminar (Nazarene Bible College)* – This Seminar/Course, in coordination with Nazarene Bible College, takes place in-person at THQ in August. Enrollment is open to Officers, Envoys, and Auxiliary Captains. The emphasis is placed on the one-point sermon model by Andy Stanley. During the seminar, officers write a sermon and present it to their small group. Post assignment work includes writing and preaching three sermons and a learning summary, receiving feedback from congregation, and submitting sermons for grades.
SYMBIS – Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts’ training is a resource for pre-martial and marriage counseling. It is comprehensive and user-friendly. Interested participants can contact ORD to receive an invitation link. If taken, must be taken as a Divisional conference. Not eligible for Officer Education Assistance funding.
Transformational Leadership Certificate* – Emotional and Spiritual Health is the foundation of this certificate which takes leaders DEEP to focus on self-awareness and leadership development through the inside out. This is based on four modules which include: Developing Essential Interpersonal Skills for Leadership; Engaging as an Effective Team; Expanding Leadership Agility; and Empowering. This is cohort based and led by Dr. Major Joanne Holz, from Kingdom Impact, who is a retired officer and an Arrow coach. If taken, must be taken as a Divisional conference. Not eligible for Officer Education Assistance funding. This starts in February of every year.
Bachelor’s & Master’s Degrees – Officer’s may complete or begin bachelor’s and master’s degrees through the TSA’s Officer Education Assistance program. Any officer who desires to begin or complete an existing accredited degree program may apply for an Approved Program of Study through their Leader for Officer Development to the Officer Resource & Development Secretary. Officers completing SACEP may inquire with ORD about the possibility of coordinating their course requirements with their desired degree completion program. Arrow graduates may complete masters programs with select institutions. Arrow, Brengle and ICO* – Are appointments given by Personnel and the Territorial Commander.
