Salvation Army Responds to Explosion Aftermath in Virginia

A crisp fall morning in the Shenandoah Valley college town of Harrisonburg, Virginia, was interrupted by a large explosion and fire Saturday Morning. The explosion flattened a strip mall just a few blocks west of the James Madison University campus and about 30 yards from the finish line for a 10-mile race. The Salvation Army of Harrisonburg quickly mobilized to offer food and comfort to first responders at the scene who remained on duty for several hours to ensure the flames were extinguished and the area was safe. The Salvation Army officers and staff, along with volunteers from the Corps, prepared food for those on the scene and were available to offer comfort well into the early evening hours.
