Tornado Relief in Laurel, MS

Laurel, Mississippi (December 18, 2019) – The Salvation Army has been working closely with state and local emergency management agencies to assess service delivery needs after a deadly tornado outbreak that slammed parts of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi on Monday, December 16. Currently, The Salvation Army is serving meals in Laurel, MS, from a canteen roving the area. The Laurel Salvation Army’s shelter at 205 N. 13th Avenue will also be open to serve lunch and dinner to residents affected by this severe weather event.

“It is never easy to witness anyone suffer, but it is especially difficult when disaster strikes during a holiday season meant for rejoicing and celebration. The Salvation Army will continue to assess the situation and address any unmet needs to provide a glimmer of hope in this time tragedy,” said Terry Lightheart, Divisional Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi Division.
