El Paso: The Salvation Army Continues Compassionate Support

El Paso, TX (August 7, 2019) – Within hours of the shooting in El Paso on Saturday, The Salvation Army deployed a mobile kitchen to provide drinks, snacks and emotional and spiritual support to first responders and those affected by this tragedy. This ministry has continued into this week as law enforcement continue their investigation and families mourn the loss of loved ones.

“This week we have seen as many as 150 first responders and law enforcement coming to the aid of El Paso and we want to help them in any way we can,” said Nora Aviles, Emergency Disaster Coordinator for The Salvation Army in El Paso. “The Salvation Army is privileged to serve our hurting community during this very difficult time. As well as providing practical help and refreshment we continue to pray for those involved and for our city.”

The Salvation Army Texas Division has established a 53’ field kitchen at the El Paso Convention Center to support the families and first responders affected by Saturday’s events. The field kitchen will be preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Family Assistance Center and is expected to remain in El Paso for the next two weeks. Volunteers and staff from the El Paso Corps along with volunteers from the Southern Baptists will be preparing and serving these meals.

“It has been our privilege to serve the residents and first responders in El Paso as they grapple with the horrendous events of Saturday,” said Alvin Migues, Emergency Disaster Services Director for The Salvation Army in Texas. “The Salvation Army is committed to providing whatever support is needed in El Paso, to the best of our ability, in the coming weeks and months.”
