“I believe everything happens for a reason,” said Larry Silver. “In 2010, I lost my job. But, when that door closed, God opened another: a store manager position with The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) in Indianapolis, Ind. Initially I knew nothing about ARCs, but as I continued to work there, I saw the changes in men’s lives as they progressed through the rehabilitation program.
“In 2012 I left the ARC for what I thought was a better opportunity. But, I kept thinking about the center. I finally called ARC Administrator Envoy Steve McNary to ask if I could come back. It was only part-time at first, but once I was back, I felt complete again. When the position of store supervisor was offered, I jumped on it.
“I started attending worship services at the ARC and accepted Jesus as my savior. I began to see a clearer picture of God’s purpose and wanted to be a part of the ARC for life. My wife and I became soldiers (church members), and we plan to pursue Salvation Army officership (become ordained ministers). Long story short, where there’s a will, He has the way,” Larry concluded.
Jennifer Silver first learned about The Salvation Army through her husband, Larry. “His passion for its mission was compelling. Then when I was offered a position at the ARC, I leapt at the opportunity because I wanted to be involved in what Larry was so excited about!
“Soon after, we began attending church there, where I learned more about the men at the center and their struggles. I witnessed the remarkable changes that occurred as their relationships with the Lord grew.
“After seeing the regeneration in these men’s lives, I can’t help but share in the passion of the Army’s mission,” Jennifer concluded.
