The Salvation Army Nears 5,000 Meals Served in Fort Myers Community

FORT MYERS, FLORIDA (October 3, 2022) — Day two of service for the Texas and ALM Divisions was a busy one for the officers, staff, and volunteers serving the Fort Myers community. A total of 3,250 meals and 1,627 drinks were served, and 58 residents were cared for through emotional and spiritual care. The two-day total for those services is 4,585 meals, 2,792 drinks, and 121 spiritual care contacts. Mercy Chefs has provided food over the last two days.

Hurricane Ian made landfall as a Category 4 storm the night of Wednesday, Sept. 28, on the west coast of Florida. A heavy storm surge led to severe flooding conditions along the coastline.

“I am incredibly proud of the service we have been able to provide in just a couple of days,” said Alvin Migues, Director of the Texas Division Emergency Disaster Services for The Salvation Army, and Incident Commander for the Fort Myers Operation. “The lack of electricity in the area makes for challenging conditions for residents in the Fort Myers community, and our team is honored to serve them in their time of need.”
