5, 4. 3. 2. 1 … Grow! with Lt. Anil Kumar

5 true things about your spiritual journey:

  • My spiritual journey is not perfect!
  • I often fail in my walk with Christ but Christ never fails me.
  • I am able to overcome temptations and challenges better as my walk is getting stronger
  • I see God’s guidance better every time when I listen to Him in my walk.
  • There is something awesome, new, refreshing and the list goes on about walking with God that words cannot express

4 things that have influenced your spiritual development over the years:

  • My parents have always been a huge influence on my spiritual development. Their ministry of over 40 years walking with Christ amazes and influences me.
  • My experience when I worked as a counselor at Camp Echo Grove helped me answer the following questions I had for many years – Are all Americans Christians? Why do Americans need missionaries as they always send missionaries to other countries? Being the counselor for the kids bought me joy and God showed me why he wants me to be his servant in America.
  • My grandparents’ testimony of their calling that brought them  from Hinduism to Christianity
  • A sermon I heard by Lt. Colonel JayaPaul about being an authentic Christian. It made me think about what it would take for me to be an authentic Christ-follower.

3 things that keep your spiritual life on track:

  1. Prayer (irrespective of time and place, I learn to rely on prayer always)
  2. Fasting (a spiritual discipline I learned and I am still learning over a decade which helps me to connect with God and I always feel refreshed. This one is very personal )
  3. Reading the word of God – (which is separate from personal devotions)

2 good news things you see happening in the Army right now:

  • Taking Church out to the people and not limiting it within the walls.
  • I see more persecution in the world right now but that does not stop us from preaching the gospel, which just fascinates me. The good news is, we get to be part of this and live the gospel out loud.

1 final thing you would say to encourage someone else on their spiritual journey:

  • We all get to be part of God’s plan and play a vital role in it, whether it is removing an obstacle in someone’s life, sowing a seed here, or being a light elsewhere. Everybody’s spiritual journey is different. Please do not compare it with the others because yours is a personal, exceptional, and unique walk that God has called you to walk with Him. Walk it out and see how marvelous it is and you will not turn back.

Lt. Anil Kumar, with his wife Karen, is the corps officer in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
