- It’s difficult! There were a few times I wanted to give up.
- It is a work in progress! Every day I choose to follow God and every day I am amazed at His faithfulness.
- It’s personal! The way I connect to God through prayer, writing, and discovering may not work for others.
- It’s joyous! When I find myself feeling entitled, betrayed, or frustrated, I stop and think about the Lord and what He has done, and it fuels me to overcome and I find myself choosing joy.
- It’s an adventure! Growth and discovery are exciting, and I am so glad to be on the journey.
4 things that have influenced your spiritual development over the years:
- The God I serve. I think the Lord demands our best.
- I would have to say the people I serve. I never want to be an empty well when people come to me looking for the life-giving water of Jesus.
- Julie Dorony was the person who changed the course of my life by believing that I could be more. I aspire to be like her in the lives of others.
- I have seen some terrible things in my life, and I have questions and God’s word has answers.
3 things that keep your spiritual life on track:
- All through my life God has supplied me with mentors who have affirmed, challenged, and rebuked me.
- Prayer. I have the best conversation with God. I love when He answers my silly prayers.
- Making space for God to speak. Reading God’s word and applying what it says.
2 good news things you see happening in the Army right now:
- Persecution- We have relied on our name and brand for years but now our reputation is being challenged in various ways. I believe this season will be one of refinement and renewed purpose during this uncomfortable time. The troops will rally!
- An emphasis on discipleship- I think we are starting to see that ministry doesn’t just happen on Sunday and programs are not the answer either. More than ever youth need to be discipled, families need to be discipled, and leaders need to be discipled.
1 final thing you would say to encourage someone else on their spiritual journey:
- Difficulty is not always Satan ordained. You may be experiencing hurt, pain, and loneliness. I believe that God calls us to do things that are difficult and unformattable for our growth and development. Saying yes to God sometimes mean you have to say no to other things, which may lead to a reduction in “friends” and “opportunities.” But be encouraged! God has something so much better in store for you! I lost “friends” and God gave me people who love me for who I am. It gets better.
