New weekend focuses on the call to serve

by Captain Kelly Hanton

We are excited to announce the expansion of the 730 Weekend with the addition of a leadership development track and a new name, “Ignite the Spirit of Leadership Weekend.”

This change aims to enhance the event’s value and impact by recruiting candidates for officership and developing lay leadership. Traditionally, The Salvation Army has used the word “calling” primarily in relation to officership, but, with the addition of a leadership development track, we ware focusing on a broader definition that includes all Christian believers who desire to serve God through The Salvation Army.

This initiative addresses the need for formal leadership training and development of lay leaders who may not have access to such opportunities at their corps. Investing in the development of lay leaders is essential for building solid and thriving corps, which could potentially increase candidate recruitment.

We believe bringing the two tracks together in united sessions and fellowship will facilitate meaningful discussions, mutual learning and unity.

By expanding the focus beyond candidate recruitment to include the development of lay leaders, we can create a more inclusive, comprehensive and impactful weekend.
