Georgia Disaster Team Deploys to Florida

Atlanta, GA (October 4, 2022) – As Florida grapples with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, The Salvation Army of Georgia has deployed personnel to travel to Sarasota, Florida, in support of first responders, survivors, and other Salvation Army resources serving in response to Hurricane Ian.

Since Monday morning, The Salvation Army of Georgia’s Emergency Disaster Services department has been loading trailers, box trucks, mobile feeding units, and multiple vehicles with food and supplies to travel to Sarasota, Florida.  Included in this deployment is an Incident Command Team that is comprised of nine team members. Also deployed are 19 disaster workers who are a combination of Salvation Army Officers, staff, and volunteer. This specialized team will bring food
and supplies that will benefit those impacted by the lasting effects of Hurricane Ian.

“The Salvation Army is a trusted organization the people of Georgia can always count on to be there for them in times of disaster,” said Lanita Lloyd, Emergency Disaster Services Director for the Salvation Army of Georgia. “We will be on the ground to help those impacted by this disaster for as long as we’re needed.”

In addition to the deployed personnel, eight mobile feeding units from Augusta, Brunswick, Dalton, Macon, Marietta, Newnan, Thomasville, and Valdosta will be sent to Sarasota to provide meals to the community. The Salvation Army will continue serving those impacted before, during, and after a disaster strikes.
