The Salvation Army Takes Bulk Distribution To Plaquemines Parish

Boothville-Venice, LA – The Salvation Army provided bulk distribution of much needed supplies to Hurricane Ida survivors living in Placquemines Parish on Monday, September 13, 2021. Several pallets of water, clean-up kits, hygiene kits, infant and toddler kits, laundry detergent, meals ready-to-eat (MRE), breakfast boxes, and hot meals were loaded into cars and trucks during a curbside distribution.

The Parish is beginning the long process of recovery, with many survivors having to throw out spoiled food due to loss of power from the storm. Cars and trucks lined Louisiana Highway 23 in temperatures that peaked above 90 degrees, while relief workers unpacked boxes and unloaded supplies. The canteen distributed cold bottled water and more than 600 meals.

Boothville-Venice Volunteer Fire Department Chief, Ray Carter, said he and several members from the community rode out the storm at the fire station. Carter said crew members are beginning to get back into their homes, and start cleaning up alongside the people they protect as fire fighters.

“It’s been a long two weeks, but we are very blessed,” said Chief Carter. “We’ve had good spirits and we will be back better than ever.”

As the vehicles pulled up and were loaded with supplies, many people requested prayers, while others offered words of encouragement and ‘thanks’ to the volunteers. As Chris Thomas closed loaded a Breakfast Box into the trunk of a car, a small child riding in the front seat yelled, “God bless you!” Chris kneeled down close to the passenger window and said, “God bless you too. That’s what this is about.”

Bulk distribution is expected to continue throughout relief efforts. The best way to support disaster relief efforts is by making a financial donation.
