- Community park clean up
Contact your village hall or community government to see if any public areas are in need of some volunteers to help clean up. Once a date and location is approved, promote the clean-up day in your weekly bulletins, on your website and in the corps building. Organize a corps van to bring the group to and from the community park and a breakfast or lunch, if necessary. Have Salvation Army name tags or t-shirts so that SA volunteers can be identified.
- Partner with Habitat for Humanity
Contact your local Habitat for Humanity organization to see if they need any more volunteers or current or future projects (you can find them on their website if you don’t know the local chapter). - Partner with your local school system
Contact the local school system to see if there is any need for volunteers for fundraising events or service projects. In this case, be prepared that participants may need to have a background check run for the school. Have Salvation Army name tags or t-shirts so that SA volunteers can be identified.
- Participate in special community activities
Look at your community calendar to see what special events may be coming up in your community, such as Special Olympics, a parade, town hall meeting, etc. All these are great ways to show your community that the people of The Salvation Army care.
