POH: Keeping our eyes fixed on God by Major Pat Irvine

Walking with families on their Pathway of Hope journey can be challenging or even overwhelming, but it’s good for both us and them.

I take comfort and encouragement from the story of Joshua when he found himself the young leader of the new nation of Israel. Having to lead his people the rest of the way to the Promised Land, he, too, faced overwhelming challenges with more questions than answers. Joshua’s challenge at every turn was reminding the Israelites to keep their eyes on God’s promises and His faithfulness. He paid attention to God’s Word and this gave him the impetus to move the people forward.

With Joshua as our example, let’s be encouraged by God’s promise: “Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7

As we take the opportunity to share hope with families who come into the corps and need support, we know the assurance of God’s guiding presence and the expectation He will provide for our needs.
