“Be strong in the Lord and,
Never give up hope,
You’re going to do great things,
I already know,
God’s got His hand on you so,
Don’t live life in fear”

kellyA while ago a friend of mine sent me the song, “The Words I Would Say” (some of the lyrics are above) by Sidewalk Prophets, a popular, contemporary Christian music group. At the time I was struggling with God’s will for my life. In fact, I was struggling in many aspects of my life: physically, socially, emotionally and especially spiritually. I remember crying out to God for help and direction.

In the months that followed God began to reveal His plan to me. That led me to accept the Good Soil Initiative position at the North Platte, Neb., Corps. Here, God has been opening doors I could have never imagined. Within my first month in North Platte, I was given the amazing opportunity to host Sidewalk Prophets while they were on their Hundred Years Tour with Francesca Battistelli. It’s one thing to listen to them on the radio, but to actually meet them face-to-face and to hear the stories behind the songs which had been such a comfort to me during my struggles was an amazingly unexpected blessing.

The guys of Sidewalk Prophets not only sing of God’s love, they are intentional about showing it. That is why when they hold a community concert, it’s important to them to spend part of their time giving back to the community. Sidewalk Prophets volunteered to come to the North Platte Corps to spend time with our kids. So, about 35 of the kids in our programs got the opportunity to not only meet the band, but to hear their testimonies and share in a question and answer time. To the guys of Sidewalk Prophets, it isn’t enough just to sing about God’s love. They demonstrate it through the way they live their lives. They were so humble and down to earth. God has truly blessed me through their ministry, yet again.
